The importance of a good post-flight inspection, as well as a pre-flight inspection.
We were supposed to be the 0705 departure this morning out of Omaha back to Chicago, but the inblund crew noticed oil on the outside of the engine and called maintenance to come fix it.
So we had a few extra hours at the hotel (no thanks to scheduling, who never called... I always check to see that we'll a) have an airplane, and b) have no maintenance delays.)
This week and next in Omaha, they are having the US Olympic Swim Team Trials. There are 1800 athletes here from all across the nation, and quite a few of them are staying at our hotel, so I have had the chance to speak to a number of them and wish them well.
It is actually pretty easy to tell the swimmers. Tall, lanky, college-age looking kids with tans and big shoulders. I overheard one girl at breakfast at The Diner say "I appreciate the thought when people wish me good luck, but I have been in the water nearly every day of my life since I was 9 years old. It's not just luck, I am supposed to be here, I have spent years of my life swimming to get here. I do appreciate the thought, though."
I was going to kill some time by getting a ticket and checking it out, but cheap seats are $48 for the day, and that's just a bit too pricey for me as a time killer for 2 hours.
So far I have met swimmers from: University of Illinois, UCLA, USC, South Texas, Florida, and Kentucky. Good bunch of young adults, ready to put it all on the line and swim against the best, to represent the USA in London.
Go Team USA!!
